Parrot mouth in horses

Parrot mouth is the condition in which the upper jaw is longer than lower jaw.
It is also called as under shot jaw.

Symptoms
  • Unable to grind feed due to irregular mastication.
  • Malnutrition
  • Reluctant to eat
  • Irregular mastication leads to uneven wear of teeth
Causes
Genetic dental disorder/ hereditary

Treatment
  • Surgical technique to correct the angle of jaws.
  • Post operative care and nursing care is essential
  • Regular dental care
  • Remove hook tooth at least every 6 months.
