Cataract in horses

A cataract is defined as the opacity of the lens.

Signs
  • Cloudiness
  • unable to see from the affected eyes leads to fear and sudden jumping.
  • Stumbling
  • Sudden shying
  • Increased anxiety
Causes
  • congenital Injury 
  • Moon blindness
  • Old age cataracts
  • Infections
  • Inherited developmental cataracts
Treatments

Surgery is the only treatment
surgery should be performed when the foal is of few months of age.
